Selecting a Dallas Plastic Surgeon

Five Useful Tips for Selecting a Surgeon

Check Credentials

Not all cosmetic surgeons are the same. In Dallas, only doctors recognized by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) can be members of the Board Certified Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeons of Dallas. To find out if a doctor is Board Certified, call the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons at 800-635-0635. Click here for information on Dr. Byrd.

Check Hospital Privileges

Even though your surgery may be performed in a doctor's office, always find out if your doctor has privileges in a Dallas hospital is to perform your procedure (and at which hospitals). Hospital privileges mean that the physicians at that particular hospital have reviewed and approved a doctor's qualification for that particular procedure.

Check Backgrounds

Review member biographies and other information on the ASPS website (www.plasticsurgery.org).

Check to see if a specified board is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

Check a Second Opinion

It can afford you great peace of mind, and is advisable when considering any kind of elective surgery. Once you've selected a plastic surgeon, you will be dependent on that individual's experience, ability, and judgment. Make sure the professionalism of his office and office staff are in keeping with your expectations.
