Cosmetic Surgery
Today in Dallas and Fort Worth, as in other cities in the United States, there are many options open to patients who want to improve their physical appearance. One of those options is Cosmetic Surgery. Dallas is fortunate to have many of the options available to choose from today. Today the question isn't "can" you do it, but "should" you do it. You are the only one who can arrive at the answer for yourself. While family and friends may have opinions, it's up to you to research and decide for yourself. As many Dallas/Fort Worth residents know, cosmetic surgery TV shows often deal with surgery in a rather flippant and off-handed way. It seems that they've gone to one extreme or the other. Some shows treat cosmetic surgery as though it wasn't surgery at all, instead, it's purported to be a "lunch hour" procedure, hardly anymore painful or stressful than a pedicure. If you've had cosmetic surgery and have the opinion that it's similar to a pedicure, you're going to the wrong place for your pedicures! Cosmetic surgery IS surgery. Many of the procedures are routinely done now, but there is still anesthesia, incision sites, sutures and recovery involved. Do not believe all of the hype concerning "lunch hour" facelifts or other procedures. Read, research and talk to friends or other patients who have had similar procedures. This is your decision and you're responsible for knowing enough to make an informed decision.
The other extreme of cosmetic surgery has also been graphically portrayed as well. These brutal and graphic portrayals whose sole purpose is shock value leave common sense and reason on the shelf and out of the script. They show doctors and other medical personnel who are incompetent risk takers who put their own lives and the lives of their patients in jeopardy. The fact is that there are bad people in every profession, and no one group is immune to their fair portion of people who struggle with addiction and other risky behaviors. Once again, do your research. Listen to friends and acquaintances. Check with the appropriate governing boards and make sure your Dallas surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon with an impeccable record and reputation.
While these two extremes may make good television, they are not a good or true portrayal of cosmetic surgery in Dallas and Fort Worth. Patients choose plastic surgery when the less invasive answers either failed or no longer work. Gravity and time take a toll on us all. You can do sit ups for hours and for some reason you can not get rid of those ridiculously named "love handles." No amount of cream is going to remove that jowliness you see in the mirror that is just like the jowliness your Mother or Grandfather had. Even if you've done the right things and stayed out of the sun, gotten 8 hours of sleep every night and drank the requisite 8 glasses of water every day gravity doesn't care. Eventually someone will say "Are you okay? You look tired!" when you're feeling just fine, and you'll look in the mirror and notice that you DO look a bit tired. It's an individual decision whether you choose to ignore well meaning friends' concern over your lack of sleep or you choose cosmetic surgery. There is no universally right or wrong answer. Whatever you choose to do is 'right' for you.
