Cheek Augmentation Cosmetic Surgery Dallas- Steven H. Byrd Plastic Surgeon Fort Worth

Cheek Augmentation in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas

Cheek AugmentationStandards of beauty in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are the same as almost anywhere else. People with prominent cheekbones, angular jaw lines, and strong projecting chins are fortunate to have those facial skeletal features that characterize popular beauty. The good news is that plastic surgery allows those who do not have the same facial foundation to augment their appearance to achieve this same standard of beauty.

My Approach

Traditional skeletal augmentation involves the placement of synthetic materials over the facial bones to enhance their prominence. Pre-formed manufactured implants may not exactly "fit" the bone surface making them subject to "rock" or project unnaturally. For these reasons we have sought out and have used hydroxyapatite (HA) since 1986.

HA is a coral that has the same chemical components and porosity as human bone. I have used this material for cheek augmentation cosmetic surgery in Dallas for years. In its granular form it is mixed with collagen and blood and is injected onto the bone surface where it can be molded to near perfect contour. Due to its similarity to human bone, fibrous ingrowths in the HA occur allowing it to become part of the body rather than just being "stuck on" the bone surface.

Are You A Candidate?

The best candidates for cheek augmentation are patients who appear to have a "hollow" looking face. A trapezoidal face (slightly wider at the cheeks than at the jaw line) is highly desirable by most popular beauty standards. Facial implants can improve and enhance facial contours, but they won't make you look "perfect." Providing a more harmonious balance to your face and features so that you can feel better about how you look. Patients with these reasonable expectations will do the best after this surgery.

How the Procedure is Performed

The Consultation

When you come to our Dallas plastic surgery office for your consultation, you'll receive a thoughtful, careful evaluation of your health, your face (including the skin and underlying bone) as well as your expectations. All of these factors play key roles in the outcome of your surgery. Before any cosmetic procedure, your surgeon should undertake an accurate facial and skeletal appraisal. Clearly express your expectations with your surgeon until you are comfortable that you are being understood, completely. Your surgeon will assist you in determining what is possible to achieve with the current techniques and your facial structure.

Day of Surgery

Prior to sedation, the patient and physician will confirm the procedure and discuss anticipated outcomes.

Surgery

Cheek enhancement with HA is accomplished through a small incision in the hairline through which an endoscope is inserted. The dissection is carried down to the surface of the bone, at which time the bony deficiencies are easily visualized on the monitor. Appropriate amounts of HA are placed bilaterally and the created "pocket" is sutured closed so that the granules cannot migrate. The granular form of HA hardens within approximately two weeks from the date of injection. During the initial post-operative days the granules can be molded from the surface of the skin by use of fingertip massage and manipulation by the surgeon.

Although there is some risk with any surgery, cheek implant surgery carries little risk and can be done as an outpatient procedure in any accredited facility. The majority of my cases are performed at Dallas Day Surgery Center. The staff is exceptional and extremely skilled, and the facility is very comfortable for our patients and their families.
