Face Lift in Dallas and Fort Worth

Facelift

Face LiftA face lift, which my Dallas and Fort Worth patients may also hear referred to as "rhytidectomy," has been used as a standard technique to smooth and re-energize the look of the lower face and neck area. A face lift will not stop the aging process, but the five to ten years of youthfulness that are "gained" with surgery tend to stay constant as aging progresses.

If you're considering one or more procedures for facial plastic surgery, come in to talk with Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Steve Byrd today. Given all the exciting choices available, you'll need a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience with the face, head and neck to help you choose.

My Approach

In Dallas, face lift surgery addresses the aging lower face, jowl and neck area which is characterized by lax, loose skin. Aging and laxity in the lower face and neck are almost always associated with changes in the upper face. My philosophy is that it may be a mistake to correct one area of the face without addressing other areas of the face. Doing so may make the face look "out of sync." The key to a pleasing outcome is through release of the sagging tissues and skin and precise suturing to fix and contour the lifted areas.

The Endoscopic Mid Face Lift is a new and valuable tool developed by Dr. Byrd and is a good option for patients who want the look of a full face lift with no visible scarring.

Most of our face lift patients who complain of an early recurrence of aging have usually had one of these areas overlooked in their treatment. Usually, the skin has been tightened but nothing has been done to correct the underlying fat and muscle. When the "big picture" is considered, the patient is pleased to have a very lasting, elegant, angular neck and jaw line as well as a youthful rested looking face with all segments seamlessly flowing together.

Additionally, advanced aging almost always involves one or more of the following three components in the neck:

  • Fat deposits under the chin causing a double chin or "turkey neck"
  • Bands that protrude when the head is turned
  • Loose, sagging, droopy skin

The most pleasing aesthetic result may involve correction of all three areas. Further removing the fat in the sagging jowl area prevents recurrence in the area and vastly improves the contour of the jaw line.

Are You A Candidate?

Sagging or lax cheek and jowl skin, deep folds between the nose and mouth, double chin, an imprecise jaw line, or prominent, vertical banks in the neck are signs that you might be a candidate for a face and neck lift. Ideal candidates can see the effects that gravity, exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life have had on their face and would like to appear refreshed and younger. Expecting to look completely different as is portrayed in some misleading and misguided movies is not a reasonable expectation. You won't look like a movie star, unless of course, you already are. All of the wisdom and some of the aging stay with you no matter what you do!

How the Procedure is Performed

The Consultation

If you're ready to learn more, contact our practice and save $100 on your consultation, which involves a careful evaluation of your health, your face, and your expectations. All of these factors play key roles in the outcome of your surgery. Photos of the patient at an earlier age (10-15 years prior) are extremely helpful in establishing the plan for rejuvenation.

Day of Surgery

Prior to sedation, pre-op markings on the face and neck indicate incision sites and the direction and amount of pull that will be distributed to the skin and underlying muscles. The operative plan is reviewed to the satisfaction of both patient and surgeon.

Surgery

The standard incision sites are behind the ear, around the earlobe at its natural crease, and finally into the scalp. Tightening the skin and muscle layers to achieve a look of elegance rather than a look of surprise is always the goal. To minimize swelling and bruising, a pressure bandage that encircles the head and neck is applied immediately following surgery.

Face lift surgery in Dallas carries little risk and can be done as an outpatient procedure in any accredited facility. The majority of my cases are done at Dallas Day Surgery Center. The staff is exceptional and extremely skilled, and the facility is very comfortable for our patients and their families.
