Rhinoplasty in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas
A nose job (rhinoplasty) helps Dallas / Fort Worth patients address cosmetic as well as functional concerns. Men and women choose rhinoplasty when they want to look better or breathe better. Patients also choose primary or secondary rhinoplasty to enhance their looks or ease their breathing. Properly done, rhinoplasty should accomplish the aesthetic goals without compromising the airway.
While it's no small task for a plastic surgeon to create an aesthetically pleasing nose to match each individual face, rhinoplasty does involve a fairly easy recovery for the patient. My Approach
As any plastic surgeon can tell you, rhinoplasty is not easy to perform. While there is very little pain associated with the surgery, you cannot pull a picture out of a magazine, take it to the plastic surgeon, say "I want my nose to look like this," and truly end up with desirable results. You are not getting your hair cut! A properly done rhinoplasty must begin with a clinical analysis evaluating the proportion of both the face and nose. When judging "beauty" for my Dallas and Fort Worth plastic surgery patients, I use a detailed study we performed on models selected for their facial beauty. The study's results indicated that a beautiful nose had no set dimensions but rather a stable relationship with other key structures of the face. Controlling those dimensions with non-destructive techniques led to the current state of the art in Dallas rhinoplasty surgery.
Are You A Candidate
Reasons for seeking a rhinoplasty in Dallas, Fort Worth, or elsewhere, and are usually based upon a desire for improving the shape of the nose or improving the ease of breathing through the nose or a combination of the two. Some people are born with noses they just don't like and others have had theirs injured or broken changing the shape of the nose and the entire look of the face. Whatever the cause, generally healthy people desiring a better, not perfect, cosmetic or structural change of their nose are good candidates.
A large portion of my practice is dealing with secondary or "re-do" rhinoplasty. The need for secondary rhinoplasty may follow trauma, cocaine use with loss of cartilage, and previous rhinoplasty with undesirable outcome. Often these cases require the replacement of the nasal structure to restore support and definition to the nose. Restoring missing structure can not only improve the overall look of the face, but also improve breathing by opening up the airway that may have partially collapsed.
How the Procedure is Performed
The Consultation
Our goal during your consultation is to:
- Obtain health history especially in regard to the nose: allergies, medications, trauma, etc.
- Determine the patient's dislikes and likes in regard to their nose
- Measure the patient's facial dimensions to determine disproportions
- Obtain life size photos to use for computer imaging and treatment planning
The completed computer images that will show the shape of the nose after surgery are sent to the patient within a week of the office consultation. If there are any questions or concerns, Dr. Byrd will discuss them with you. Save $100 on your consultation and come in to talk with him today.
Day of Surgery
Prior to sedation, patient and surgeon will confirm the procedure and discuss anticipated results.
Surgery
Dr. Byrd is a Dallas rhinoplasty specialist who begins the procedure by separating the skin from the supporting framework or skeleton, sculpting and/or suturing the bones and/or cartilage then re-draping the skin over the new framework. Non-destructive techniques are emphasized so as to preserve a stable structure. An open or closed technique may be chosen depending to on the underlying anatomy and related deformity. Most nose surgeries are done from the inside of the nose leaving no visible scars.
In secondary or redo rhinoplasties it is sometimes necessary to use cartilage to build up the nasal framework. Rib cartilage is often used and is "harvested" from the patient's own 10th and/or11th ribs. These grafts are a powerful tool in restoring both the shape and function of the nose.
Nose surgery carries little risk and can be done as an outpatient procedure in any accredited facility using IV sedation or general anesthesia. The majority of my cases are done at Dallas Day Surgery Center. The staff is exceptional and extremely skilled, and the facility is very comfortable for our patients and their families.
Secondary Rhinoplasty
A large portion of my practice now involves secondary or redo rhinoplasty. Often, these cases require the replacement of structure to restore support and definition to the nose. My favorite sources of cartilage to use in secondary rhinoplasty are the nasal septum, the ends of the 10th and 11th ribs, and conchal cartilage from the ear. These cartilage grafts are a powerful tool in restoring both the function and shape of the nose. (Learn more about secondary rhinoplasty in Dallas)
