In 2000 when this patient was 35-years-old, she had breast augmentation (with another doctor) and went from a C-cup to a DD-cup by using a small silicone implant. The surgery and early recovery went normally and she was initially very pleased with the results, but then she became pregnant before the healing from the breast augmentation surgery was fully completed. The pregnancy and childbirth went smoothly and the life-long Dallas patient did have significant breast enlargement both during the pregnancy and after the birth when she breastfed the baby until mid-2001. After she finished breastfeeding her child, it became apparent that she now needed a breast lift in Dallas due to the impact the pregnancy and breastfeeding had on her breasts. We were able to use the same implants implanted in her initial augmentation surgery and removed excess skin from the breasts to sufficiently lift the breasts to the appropriate level. Nearly 700 grams of tissue was removed from the breasts, and the patient was left with the beautifully lifted, and augmented breasts she desired. The patient was very pleased with both the birth of her first child and the results of both of her breast surgeries, and we all learned something from the experience: sometimes surprises are the best kinds of gifts.
