As more patients are undergoing gastric bypass or “Lap Band” surgery, more patients are dealing with excess, sagging skin that remains after extensive weight loss. Although skin is very elastic and will stretch out as far as we’re willing to let our waistbands expand, the problem comes when we lose those excess pounds and inches because our skin isn’t as good at returning to the original size and shape. This 37-year-old patient had “Lap Band” surgery 4-years prior to her consultation. Even before her weight gain she had large breasts and wore a 38DD even after losing weight and attaining her goal weight. We prefer to wait for a time after the patient has reached their goal weight to see if they can maintain that weight even when dealing with life’s everyday stressors. This patient had proven she could maintain her goal weight and was highly motivated to improve her body contours. Her pictures are early post-op and not all the swelling has subsided from the Mastopexy surgery itself, but there’s clearly a dramatic improvement. A qualified surgeon and a compliant, highly motivated patient can truly achieve some remarkable goals together!
