This 17-year-old male was unhappy with the size of his nose and his concern was getting the procedure done quickly so he’d have time to fully recover before heading off to college. Although the patient had suffered no trauma, it was discovered upon examination that he also had a deviated septum requiring a Septo-rhinoplasty procedure. Probably the most remarkable thing surrounding this case was the length of time between the initial consultation and the surgery date. As an active student getting ready to “leave the nest” and enter college, he didn’t have a great deal of flexibility in his schedule. In most cases there’s an average of 5 – 6 weeks between consultation and surgery, but that just wasn’t possible here. The staff and the patient worked together expediting this case by getting the procedure scheduled, consent forms signed, bloodwork and health testing done and all other pre-operative requirements met in time to do the surgery only 8 days after the consultation. There’s nothing inherently wrong with doing cases in that manner, but it’s not something we recommend unless there’s no other option. For many patients there simply isn’t a great deal of flexibility in their schedule and we will do whatever we can to work around their time and schedule restrictions.
