Do you have a small amount of excess saggy skin in the abdominal area, making you look out of shape? Well, if you do, it’s nothing to be upset about. Thanks to a procedure known as a Mini Abdominoplasty, also known as a mini tummy tuck, you can get rid of that small pouch-like skin hanging from your belly.
The Mini Abdominoplasty has been specifically developed to cater to people who want a flatter tummy and a more desirable shape, but don’t necessarily need a full abdominoplasty.
The Mini Abdominoplasty Procedure
A mini abdominoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia and minimal sedation. However, your surgeon may choose to go with general anesthesia for specific reasons. The procedure is quite simple and also, quick when compared to the full abdominoplasty technique. It involves removing a small amount of skin from the lower abdominals to provide a more sculpted shape.
Needless to say, the procedure does require making an incision. The incision is made in relation to the amount of skin that needs to be removed. However, this is a Mini Tummy Tuck and the size of the incision is likely to be significantly smaller than what you would expect with a regular Abdominoplasty.
In fact, the incision is so small that any post-surgical mark left behind will have limited visibility. Also, there is no need to reposition the navel during this type of procedure. At the most, you may have to undergo additional procedures to acquire the exact shape that you want.
A Mini Abdominoplasty also requires a very small section of the abdominal wall to be visible. Typically, the treatment area extends from the point where the incision is made to the navel. Once the excess fat has been cleared out and the abdominal muscles tightened, the skin is stretched downward. When doing this, the surgeon will also clear out excess tissue and close the incisions.
Ideal Candidates for the Mini Abdominoplasty Surgery
As stated earlier, the perfect candidate for a Mini Abdominoplasty is someone who has localized excess fat or skin in the abdominal area; usually around the pubis or the navel. These are people who may have lost weight with a healthy lifestyle but developed saggy abdominal skin as a result or were unable to get rid of that stubborn bit of fat in the abdomen.
The key difference between a Mini Abdominoplasty and a regular Abdominoplasty is that the tissue and skin in the lower abdomen are removed while the internal muscles are tightened without disturbing the navel’s position. In a regular abdominoplasty, the navel is often repositioned.
Recovering from a Mini Abdominoplasty
You might experience some discomfort after the procedure, such as swelling and bruising, but this is a temporary occurrence and should subside soon after. If it becomes too much to handle, however, your doctor can prescribe medication to help provide comfort.
You will need to take some time off work and your normal daily activities for some time to properly recover from the treatment. The time required may vary from person to person and it is much less than the downtime associated with the full abdominoplasty.
